Electromyography and Nerve Condition Studies

Electromyography (EMG) is the recording and study of the intrinsic electrical properties of skeletal muscle. EMG’s along with Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing (NCV) and Sensory Nerve Action Potentials (SNAP) can give the referring physician a clear perspective of the nerve unit and muscle status.

EMG’s, NCV’s, and SNAP’s provide objective documentation for conditions such as nerve root irritations, compression syndromes (carpel tunnel syndrome, etc.) nerve diseases, and nerve damage due to trauma.

By utilizing these tests, industries can enjoy significant success in reducing worker’s compensation costs and complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. These simple components of a EMG, NCV, or SNAP evaluation take approximately ten minutes to perform and can accurately document early nerve changes. This is particularly helpful in determining a job task for an employee predestined to have carpal tunnel syndrome.
